To help inform our customers, we have created this glossary of terms related to our products and projects; we hope it will enable us all to communicate clearly. The information provided here is intended to facilitate discussion, not to serve as medical or legal advice. Current glossary entries are:

ache
acne:
a common skin affliction characterized by red spots that can be elevated above the skin level and are often bacteria infected and filled with pus. “Acne treatment” may be a medicinal claim and regulated as a medicine but “improving the appearance of acne-afflicted skin” may be an attribute claimed for skin care formulae under the cosmetics category.
active ingredients: ingredients within a formula that are responsible for certain activity or activities for which the formula is designated
actives: variant of "active ingredients"
age-defying: not a well defined term; usually used to describe a treatment that gives a “younger look” without attributing medicinal attributes to the treatment. The term is used by some companies selling cosmetic products.
aging:
Aging is the sum of changes in a bio-system in time. From a biological or philosophical viewpoint, maturation, which is also the sum of changes in a bio-system, may be part of the aging process but from a practical, economical, and marketing viewpoint people are not trying to reverse the “maturity process” but the post-maturity accumulated changes. Aging is not a disease.

anti-acne
anti-aging:
fighting the aging process, fighting processes or factors believed to sustain, promote, or accelerate the aging process, reversing age related disorders, reversing the aging process. In cosmetics, it relates to skin appearing younger in conjunction with a treatment.
anti-aging skin care: natural skin care with anti-aging activities.
anti-aging serum
anti-blemish: makes the skin appear blemish free; corrects blemishes that are not categorized as diseases.
